According to official GR Cemetery lot card the numbers do NOT agree with the arrangement of the headstones.
Space 1 - Celestia PARKS. This is correct.
Space 2 - Robert S. PARKS. This is correct.
Space 3 - Swart W. PARKS. Not correct. Sarah N. PARKS headstone here.
Space 4 - Minnie PARKS. This is correct.
Space 5 - Sarah N. PARKS. Not correct. Edwin R. PARKS headstone here.
Space 6 - Edwin R. PARKS. Not correct. Mary J. PARKS headstone here.
Space 7 - Charles PARKS. This is correct.
Space 8 - Ester PARKS. Correct, but should be ESTHER.
Space 9 - Mary Josephine PARKS. Not correct. Charley PARKS headstone.
Space 10 - Carrie ROBERTS. This is correct.
I spoke with the City Cemetery administrator who informed me that the lot card does not agree with the computer. The discrepancy seems to center around Sarah N. PARKS who was reinterred from another location in 1911. Where Swart PARKS figures into the picture is unknown. He may have been a baby burial. Back in those times (before vaults) baby's were oftentimes buried head-to-toe with an adult. So it may very well be that Swart (if a baby) is buried with Sarah N. PARKS in the same grave.
There is no information for Carrie ROBERTS, Charley PARKS, or Esther PARKS. No birth or death information on cemetery file.
Concerning the above death record... there are a couple discrepancies on the record but everything else fits. According to this record Minnie PARKS was single when she passed. She was the daughter of Robert S. PARKS and Sarah PARKS. Minnie died from injuries received from a fall. The first discrepancy is her age at death: listed as 24 years and 11 months. Obviously not correct. The 2nd discrepancy is that Sarah PARKS is listed as being deceased. While Robert S. PARKS was deceased, Sarah was not in 1884. Have to wonder who the informant was.
There doesn't seem to be any discrepancies in Sarah's death record. Died from Consumption (T.B.).
Robert Smith PARKS died from liver cancer. There doesn't seem to be any discrepancies at first glance other than the fact that I doubt Robert would like being called a "housewife".
Robert S. PARKS was a steamboat operator and son, Charles, was an iron finisher. The family was quite well-to-do with a net worth of $1,000 which today would be about $30,000. Note too that they had a Dutch house servant. Minnie (Mary E.) was 1.
The family has relocated to Omaha, Nebraska Territory where Robert remains a steamboatsman. Note son Edwin who is a civil engineer: his net worth is $5,000 which today would be about $145,000. Minnie (Mary E.) is now 11.
To Nebraska and back again. The Robert PARKS family is back in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Robert is now a produce dealer with a net worth of $7,000. S. Virginia, age 25, is about Minnie's age... not certain who she might be: she was born in Michigan. Minnie is now 21. The household has a live-in family, the David H. WATERS family. Small world... I am also investigating the Dudley E. WATERS genealogy for a separate client. He built the infamous WATERS building in downtown Grand Rapids - quite the building, still stands. The WATERS family had substantial wealth... they didn't need to live with the PARKS. Net worth $40,000 or $750,000 today.
Sarah and daughter, Minnie, live at 139 North Division Street in a complex. Sarah is now widowed.
