Welcome to GRAncestors.com...
No one wants to be forgotten. To be forgotten has been the great dread of mankind since the beginning of time. Sadly, all will be forgotten soon enough, in spite of our best works and the most earnest efforts of family and friends to preserve the memory of our lives.
Generations have passed, now forgotten, the early settlers all cut down by the scythe of time. This Scythe of time cuts down all; nothing of the physical man is left. The monument which his children or friends may erect to his memory in the cemetery will crumble into dust and pass away; and his life, his achievements, the work he has accomplished, which otherwise would be forgotten, has been recorded on the pages of history, left to be discovered, the pieces put back together to construct a timeline of his life from beginning to end.
GRAncestors.com is devoted to the reconstruction of these pieces: to the preservation of the attainable facts surrounding the history of our Greater Grand Rapids Ancestors. Their monuments silently whisper to those who will stop and listen: these were lives lived that are much greater than the etched birth and death dates. It is the dash in between where we concern ourselves. A deeper look into who our Ancestors were and their place in history.
We will press on and resurrect their memories for future generations basing our histories on the paper trails they left behind: news articles, recorded obituaries, public records, court documents, land records, and so much more. Using available resources we put the pieces of our Ancestral puzzle back together until we are able to view their distinct personalities and achievements.
